The Web Wallet runs in a browser. This guide covers Web Wallet 2.1.4. Your browser profile, extensions, and device all affect its security and access to local wallet data.

Browser risks to plan for

  • Clearing browser data, changing profiles, replacing a device, or using a compromised extension can interrupt access to locally held wallet data.
  • Shared computers, untrusted extensions, and phishing pages increase the risk of exposing sensitive information.
  • A browser session is not a recovery plan. Complete and protect your wallet recovery process before relying on browser storage.

Safer routine

Open the Web Wallet release page directly and check the URL. Verify any checksum or signature published with a downloadable file. Keep your browser, operating system, and extensions updated. Test the address with a small transfer before sending a larger amount.

Do not send recovery material to a website, support contact, or person who claims they can restore the wallet for you.
